Toronto, Ontario, February 24, 2012—Yesterday, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Labour Minister, attended a meeting with representatives from the Centre for Labour Management Relations (CLMR) at RyersonUniversity. During the meeting, the Minister and senior executives from the CLMR and Ryerson discussed how the Centre and the Government of Canada can encourage relationship-building and understanding in today’s challenging economy.
“Our government remains focused on stimulating the Canadian economy by creating and maintaining jobs,” said Minister Raitt. “In this economically fragile period, strong labour–management relations are of the utmost importance.”
The Centre for Labour Management Relations works to improve Canadian labour–management relations by funding ground-breaking research; hosting public lecture series; placing students in internships; and holding symposia and conferences on topics relevant to improving the workplace. During her visit, the Minister also had the opportunity to review the CLMR website, www.ryerson.ca/clmr, a one-stop web- based labour portal.
“I would like to commend the Centre for Labour Management Relations and the Ryerson/Ted Rogers School of Management for their commitment to labour–management relations initiatives,” said Minister Raitt.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code. These laws cover industrial relations; health and safety; and employment standards, and apply to federally regulated workers and employers.
